Der Schriftsteller Samson Young, seines Zeichens Erzähler von London Fields, leidet unter einer Schreibblockade – und das schon seit 20 Jahren. Nun ist er todkrank und würde gerne noch ein letztes großes Buch verfassen. Nur das passende Thema will ihm nicht einfallen. In London küsst ihn die Muse auf sehr ungewöhnlich Art: Dort begegnet er nämlich nicht nur dem Kleinkriminellen und Dartprofi Keith Talent und dem reichen, gelangweilten Banker Guy Clinch, sondern auch der mysteriösen Femme fatale Nicola Six. Von ihr erfährt er, dass sie ihren eigenen Mord vorausgesehen hat.
